Dr. Rabin is currently coordinating a new and unique study at Sheba Hospital that is investigating a method of treating cancerous tumors using MRI-guided ultrasound waves. This method involves raising the tumor's temperature to a certain level and then destroying it.

With the help of Lutetium, cancer cells are destroyed selectively, without affecting healthy tissues of the body. That is, this method of treatment can literally be called "local radiation therapy". In addition, the drug does not have a toxic effect on the bone marrow and kidneys, destroying the tumor from the inside.

Prof. Jack Baniel is a Professor of Urology and Chief of Urology section at Rabin Medical Center, Petach Tikva, Israel.
